A Neutral Rainbow For Alexandra Gater's DIY Bedroom Makeover
How much do we love an internet house tour around here? I devour them all. High-end Architectural Digest castle tours and DIY tiny houses. They all spark design joy. But the icing on the cake is getting to see the decorating process along the way, when you get that house tour fix and your DIY fix all in one. Yes, I’m talking about home makeovers!
My new addiction over the past few months has been Alexandra Gater’s YouTube channel. Her style is playful and feminine, but she manages to make it all come together in a way that keeps boyfriends and cats happy as well. And the coolest part is that at the end of every video I come away with at least one thing I can implement in my own place. Which is saying a lot because I’m not only picky about how I decorate my home, I can also be a bit lazy with actually doing it.
I often watch design shows and videos thinking, “Someday it would be cool to do that… just gotta make a trip to the hardware store… order this elaborate thing online… hire an electrician… and then we’re good to go… but that sounds like a lot. Hmm. Maybe not.” Alexandra makes it easy to think of little changes you can make quickly that will elevate your space… even in a rental.
In Alexandra’s recent Cozy Apartment Bedroom Tour video she takes us on a tour of her DIY bedroom that looks anything but DIY. It’s a sophisticated, colorful and delightfully casual space. I was so honored to be part of the tour with my “Butter with Caramel Rainbow” art print as one of the stops along the way! There’s something so great about making a space (or a work of art, or anything) aesthetically pleasing, chic and at the same time fun, lighthearted and easy. Life is too short to shy away from a pink closet door.
Alexandra also shares the “Pale Mauve with Warm Pink Rainbow” print (no longer available, explore other EKS prints here)… and I have to admit I think this one proves that she and I are color soulmates!
A few of the (many) things Alexandra nails in this video and I want to steal for my place!
Faux built-in bookshelf with rainbow-coordinated books??! Yes.
Always making pom poms somehow feel gender neutral and grown-up
Pairing second-hand finds with store-bought items to create a custom look and feel
Having fun and not taking things too seriously
Now pour a cup of coffee or a happy glass of rosé and get into this home tour!
