My 5 Favorite Artsy Gift Stores in Los Angeles
As the blog grows, I'm really excited to share more of my top 5 lists with you! Keep an out for them at the beginning of every month. I share art, design, and general life favorites that I think you'll love too! SO here are my 5 (err maybe more) fave artsy, gifty, stationery-y shops in Los Angeles. If you're a local you might already know and love some of them. And if you're planning a trip, each one is a great jumping-off point for a visit to some of the cutest LA hoods both east and west.
Shout and About Echo Park
This place is numero uno in my heart! It's a gold mine for bright colors and playful gifts and decor. It's a tiny space which they somehow manage to fill perfectly with everything I want. Being on the east side it has a little more of an edgy factor than the others on my list which I love. My perfect Saturday involves a coffee and a petit four at Valerie and a quick stop (or an hour) at Shout and About - all worth the long drive from Santa Monica. Some of my favorite finds have been adorable party cups and fun little stickers and tattoos.
Urbanic Paper Boutique Venice
I love how much LA loves its stationery stores and how each one captures the vibe of its neighborhood. Urbanic is a must-stop shop on your Abbot Kinney crawl. The very cutest cards (like a ton of them!) and a great spot for little hostess gifts or birthday goodies. They also do wedding invitations, which I could admire alllll day long. If you can't find the perfect invitation here, you're probably not using your eyes correctly or something. If they need a pick-me-up take yourself across the street to Intelligentsia.
Sugar Paper Brentwood
This little gem is walkable from my place and neighbors with my favorite ice cream shop, so I usually use one as an excuse to visit the other. Small and sweet, their style is a little more grown up than some of my other haunts, so I always come here for the major holidays and events. It's my go-to spot for greeting cards. Some of my favorites have been: a Mother's Day card diagramming the distinction between mom genes and mom jeans, a Father's Day card reading, "Thanks for being proud of me even though I have no idea what I'm doing," and a few sweet wedding cards for my besties over the years.
Arteria West LA
The coolest new kid on the block. A great spot for the more artistic crowd, ie those who are just as enamored of paintbrushes and washi tape as they are a new pair of shoes. It's a clean, zen-feeling yet inner-child-freeing space with plenty of gift options and lots of goodies to buy for yourself! The best part is they host art workshops and creative gatherings all the time so your art supplies will never get lonely or gather dust.
Burro Venice
Another must-stop on Abbot Kinney! They have way more than stationery, including clothes, jewelry, books and a lot of really good smelling things. They also have a kids store that is obviously even more adorable. All of their goods are high quality and in good taste, but there's also a major sense of fun and playfulness in everything. I mean there's a section of their online shop called "Friendship + Love + Magic" sooo.
Bonus - for anyone who loves a California road trip: Viva Paso in Paso Robles!
